Kindergarten is the new First Grade!

I have been a Kindergarten teacher for many years. I love teaching Kindergarten, but it is demanding for the students.  Parents are always amazed as to how much Kindergarten has changed since they were children.  Parents are under the impression that as long as their child is potty trained, can open a lunch bag, and can sit for a bit, that he or she is ready for Kindergarten.  This is not the case.  Kindergarten is the new First Grade!  Much is expected of children starting on day 1.

Kindergarten is so much more than socializing, hearing stories, and doing crafts.  I have come across many blogs that state what a wonderful year your Kindergarten child will have.  They will!  They say treasure this time and take pictures, that this is a time of wonder and growth for your child.  This is true!  They also claim that if your child can tie their own shoes, put on a jacket, and are potty trained they are ready for Kindergarten.  Nope!!!!

This site will provide you with information on what your child needs to know before entering Kindergarten, ideas on how to work with your child to prepare them for Kindergarten, and what your child will learn while in Kindergarten.   You can get your child ready for Kindergarten!  It’s not rocket science!  But it does involve you putting in the time with your child.  In the end you will have spent quality time with your child and your child will be starting their Kindergarten year off on the right foot!
